What we collect

• Text you submit to a tool, and the result we produce from it.
• Account and billing data if you sign in or subscribe: your email address, subscription status, and whether you are subscribed to our marketing emails. Card details are handled by our payment provider and are never stored by us.
• Sign-in codes. When you ask us to email you a code, we hold your address and a one-way hash of that code for 10 minutes, then delete the record. We never store a password.
• Technical data needed to run the site securely: your request metadata, approximate country from your network address (to show the right currency), and server logs kept briefly for security and abuse prevention.

Submitted content

Some checks run entirely on our own servers, and for those your text reaches no third party at all. For the rest, your text, or a part of it, is sent to one or more of the providers listed under Third-party providers below, which may process it only on our behalf and only to return your result.

How long we keep your text alongside its result depends on whether you are signed in:

• If you are signed in: your check is saved to your account and kept until you delete it, so you can return to any report. Delete any check from your account at any time, or delete your account to remove them all at once.
• If you are not signed in: your text is erased automatically within 24 hours of your check. The result page keeps working after that, because a link you shared should not stop resolving, and what stays on it is the score and the sentence-by-sentence figures. Your text is not on it and cannot be recovered from it.

A result page can be opened by anyone you send the link to, and that is what it is for. It does not show them your text. The page shows your document to you and to nobody else: to any other visitor, and to search engines, it shows the score, the verdict and the per-sentence figures with every trace of what you wrote removed.

You are always in control of your saved checks: you can delete any one of them, or your whole account, whenever you like, and deletion is permanent. We do not train on or repurpose your content beyond serving your result, we never sell it, and we never place submitted content in URLs or query strings.

How we use your data

We use it to provide the service (produce your result and run your subscription), to keep the service secure and prevent abuse, to meet legal and accounting obligations, and, if you have subscribed, to email you about your subscription. When you create an account we also add you to our marketing email list to send offers, product news and tips; you can unsubscribe at any time from your account settings or from any marketing email, and it is never a condition of buying anything. Our legal bases are performing our contract with you, our legitimate interest in a secure and working service, your consent where we ask for it, and compliance with law.

What we store

Your result and its scores (for the window above), and subscription state (email, billing status). We keep the minimum personal information needed to run the service.

Advertising measurement. We run ads, and we measure which of them lead to a sale using Google Analytics. When you buy, we share an irreversibly hashed form of your email address so the sale can be matched to the click. A hash cannot be turned back into your address. We never share a raw email, and we never share the text you submitted with anyone but the providers named above.

Cookies

We use a small number of first-party cookies that are strictly necessary: to keep you signed in, to remember your currency and country, and to keep the site secure. We do not use advertising cookies unless the advertising measurement above is active. Every cookie we set, what it is for and how long it lasts is listed in our Cookie Policy.

Browser extension

Our browser extension is the same checkers in a side panel. It talks only to cleverchecker.com, over the same sign-in cookie, and it is covered by everything above: the text you check through it reaches us, is retained and is deleted exactly as a check made on the site is.

What is specific to the extension:

• It does not read the pages you visit. It reads the text you select, and only when you ask it to: opening the panel, choosing "Check selection" from the right-click menu, or pressing Selection in the panel. There is no background script running on the sites you browse, and it never reads or records the addresses of the pages you are on.
• It only writes back when you click. "Replace" puts a rewrite into the field you were typing in. Nothing is ever changed on a page without that click.
• The grammar checker checks as you type, so while that tool is open, what is in the box is sent to us shortly after you stop typing. Nothing is stored for it and it uses none of your daily checks. Every other tool sends nothing until you press its button.
• It keeps a few things on your own device, in the extension's storage and never on our servers: your light or dark preference, the tool you last used, its options, the size you dragged the panel to, and a draft of the text in the box, so closing the panel does not lose your work. Removing the extension removes all of it.
• There is no analytics in the panel: it loads no third-party script and sets no advertising cookie.

International transfers

Some providers named above may process data outside your country. Where they do, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, so your data keeps a comparable level of protection.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the UK or EU these are your rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR; if you are in California you have comparable rights under the CCPA, and we do not sell your personal information. To exercise a right, email us; we may need to verify your identity first. Cancellation and refunds are self-serve in your account.

Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls, and short retention. No online service can promise perfect security, but we keep what we hold to a minimum and delete it as soon as it has done its job.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. If a change is material we will take reasonable steps to tell you. The "last updated" date above always shows the current version.
